Abstract
With mining companies collecting more and more data both through machine or human processes, there is an increasing need to bring data to decision makers faster, or even near real time. This poses a challenge when technical personnel are not on site or data resides in different networks (e.g. cloud and on-premise network storage). Low-code development platform empowers business users to design and deliver products to help mitigate the data capture and distribution gap. At Vale's iROC, the data and reporting team and IT teams collaborated to deploy Microsoft Power Platform that leverages the power of out-of-the box user interfaces (Power Apps), built-in connectors for data pipeline (Power Automate), and existing reporting infrastructure at the organization (Power BI).
Two examples will be showcased to demonstrate the application of the Microsoft Power Platform: An operations digital logbook, and a weekend production data capture app. The digital logbook's mobile design liberates frontline supervisors from the desktop so that they can focus on the in-field active leadership. The weekend production data capture app allows the frontline production personnel to update production data and deviation analysis with ease directly to the leadership's inbox, eliminating information lag.
Features like real-time saving, cloud backup, easy-to-trace history, simultaneous editing, mobile-device responsiveness alleviates the burden of traditional change management for technology systems.
