Abstract
Which tire management strategy delivers more value: maximizing tire performance or maximizing fleet productivity?
Many tire management strategies focus on tire performance without considering what it really costs to improve tire performance—or how that focus actually impacts fleet availability and productivity.
In this talk ‘Why Tire Strategy Matters,’ Mark Goode shares tools to help mines quantify other important considerations, such as the fleet availability cost of tire maintenance downtime events through the life of a tire. By comparing these easily calculated numbers with delivered changes in tire performance value, attendees can determine if focusing on tire performance or productivity is more effective. It is hard to do both effectively.
Mark Goode is the Director of Business Insights at Kal Tire’s Mining Group and will share several examples where tire life strategies—aimed at improving tire life and with the expectation of also increasing fleet availability—actually led to more truck downtime. Furthermore, the cost of that additional downtime outweighed savings to the tire budget. Join this talk to gain the tools to determine which tire management strategy delivers the most value at your operation.
