Abstract
CIM’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC) wants to chat about allyship and, more specifically, “bystander intervention”: What does it really mean? What does it look like in practice? Does it put us at risk? We seek to get a better understanding and have a conversation about real life experiences.
As we hear frequently, people are our greatest resource. Some people have witnessed a situation where racism or harassment has occurred and are not sure how to react or respond in the moment. This conversation will touch on experiences where bystander intervention would have been helpful so that the audience can gain a better understanding of what effective intervention looks like. It will also provide tangible learning for audience members so they can leave feeling better equipped to safely intervene if needed in a situation of harassment.
It is through this conversation that the panel hopes to make an impact and speak about the importance of bystander intervention in the prevention of racism and harassment in the mining industry.
