Abstract
An Alberta Prairies coal mine has successfully trialed hybrid cast blasting to move long standing highwalls to a final reclamation slope state, providing an effective alternative to more expensive and time-consuming reclamation dozer activity. Knowledge of the mine’s historical cast blasting experience was used to conceive a reclamation blast design procedure, based on the effective energy employed, to progressively and sequentially in the same blast ‘throw’ the muckpile into as close a final reclamation slope form as possible. The paper and presentation will outline the methodology used, the blast design; and include drone footage of the blast from initiation to final muckpile position.
