Abstract
The session seeks to inspire other companies and organizations to embark on their own journey towards reconciliation and responsible mining.
It presents a practical approach to reconciliation and Indigenous participation in mineral exploration, assessments, and development through the following :
Reconciliation in Practice: The session will present Agnico Eagle’s First Reconciliation Action Plan with Indigenous Peoples, providing a concrete example of reconciliation applied in the mining industry. It will highlight how Agnico Eagle will advance on its reconciliation journey through a comprehensive strategy comprised of 7 pillars and 40 actions and how it addresses the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the Calls for Justice of the Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Indigenous Participation: The session will highlight the importance of engaging with Indigenous Peoples, communities, and organizations in the development and implementation of a Reconciliation Action Plan. It will share strategies on how to ensure buy-in from employees and management, and how to respect the specificity of different Nations, regions, culture, and traditions when elaborating a global vision.
Continuous Learning and Improvement: The session will emphasize the importance and value of continuous engagement and collaboration during such a process.
These key points aim to provide a comprehensive overview of how reconciliation can be achieved in practice within the mining industry, and how Indigenous participation can be incorporated into mineral exploration, assessments, and development.
