Abstract
The authors have been a part of the mining and transportation industries for over 20 years, as consultants and at operations. While headway is being made on increasing gender diversity within these industries, we were educated in and continue to work in male-dominated environments. This presentation will share our experiences at open pit and underground mining operations, on the railway, within academic research environments, and within consulting to acknowledge the barriers women face within engineering and geoscience careers, but more importantly to demonstrate how those around us stepped up to help. The objective of our presentation is to demonstrate how relatively small actions by coworkers and supervisors can have a large and lasting impact on the success and retention of women in our industry.
