Abstract
Each year, 30-40% of mining industry fatalities result from failures in vehicle interaction controls (EMESRT, 2023). This presentation will explore how Proximity Detection & Collision Avoidance Technologies (CAS) can be implemented and leveraged to enhance safety and reduce risks with a well-planned approach. We will differentiate between Level 7 - Operator Awareness, Level 8 - Advisory Controls, and Level 9 – Intervention Controls, helping mine Operators to understand a pragmatic approach to adopting this technology. The role of and alignment with industry best practices from EMESRT and ICMM, and discuss implementation strategies, change management best-practices and experiences with managing stakeholder expectations based on the learnings from one of the largest global CAS deployments in the Canadian mining industry.
