Abstract
McCreedy West mine was first developed by Inco in 1970 was active until 1998. In 2002, KGHM International begin operating this property and brought the mine to production a year later. McCreedy West mine went on care and maintenance in 2015 due to low metal prices. The mine was reactivated in 2018 after 4 years in care and maintenance.
McCreedy West mine is currently operating at a depth of between 500 and 2000 ft. The ground reaction at such shallow depth is mostly impacted by geological structures as well as mining ratio to some extent. In this paper, the result of ground monitoring near 1430 level at McCreedy West Mine will be reviewed and discussed. Ground at this level and the level above has very good quality.
Monitoring results indicate that despite large stopes being mined, minimal ground movement has been observed except where suspected geological structures have caused movement. The ground movement occurs far ahead of any mining activity commences on this level, which requires additional ground support to be installed. The monitoring results and additional ground support requirement will be reviewed with respect to mining sequence on this level.
