Organizations can invest heavily in technology, procedures, and compliance—yet serious injury and fatality prevention still depends on whether people speak up early, learn quickly, and take shared responsibility in real work. This presentation introduces the newly developed guide “Positive Leadership – Key to VISION ZERO” (author: Frank Nesemann) and argues that it operationalizes VISION ZERO Golden Rule No. 1 (“Take leadership – demonstrate commitment”) in a clearly behavior-oriented way for leaders—bridging the gap between prevention intent and everyday leadership practice. Built on the PERMA-Lead logic (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment), the guide reframes prevention leadership from “driving compliance” toward creating conditions in which people act responsibly and proactively. To make this actionable, each chapter combines (a) a compact traffic-light self-assessment for leader self-reflection, (b) an evidence/notes prompt, and (c) a next micro-step commitment—supporting transfer into routines rather than one-off training. The guide also provides a practical “quick start” for busy managers and a structured implementation path (from understanding the current leadership culture to anchoring and scaling), emphasizing that Positive Leadership requires structure, training, and a clear development pathway. Using a small set of brief case snapshots from the guide (across PERMA elements), the talk illustrates how leadership micro-behaviors can strengthen psychological safety—a precondition for early risk reporting, feedback, and learning without blame—thereby supporting proactive leading indicators and sustainable culture change.
