Abstract
For a success project outcome, capital project development must consider discipline in all stages of a project's evolution from inception to final handover and ramp up. This presentation will provide an overview of key learnings from Vale's long history of project experience through each stage of a project's journey including successful execution in today's challenging environment.
Biography of the presenter
Dave Stefanuto has a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo and began his career in the mining industry with the former Inco’s General Engineering group in Sudbury supporting the various mines and surface facilities in capital project management.
In 2003, Dave was part of the team that successfully executed the Voisey’s Bay Nickel Mine/Mill/Port Project in Labrador. Following this he was part of the Project Management team responsible for completion of the feasibility studies defining the Long Harbour Hydrometallurgical Processing Plant through to the initial execution of the project.
Dave then returned to Sudbury and was responsible for execution of the CORe (Challenging Ore Recovery) Project in Sudbury which included the addition of a new flotation plant and IsaMill installation at Clarabelle Mill.
In 2011 Dave was charged with leading Vale’s Clean AER (Atmospheric Emissions Project) in Sudbury, the largest environmental project of its kind in Sudbury’s history. The US$1B project will see sulphur dioxide emissions in Sudbury reduced by 85% from current levels. Dave then led the re-definition of the Clean AER project to accommodate the changes in Vale’s Sudbury operation to a one-furnace operation as well as took responsibility for execution of the Surface Facilities Upgrade project which facilitated the required process changes. This also included the historic milestone of decommissioning the iconic Sudbury Superstack.
Dave currently has responsibility for all Canadian projects in Vale’s North Atlantic portfolio and is proud to call Sudbury home.
