Abstract
Soundless chemical demolition agents (SCDA) are powdery cementitious materials which upon mixing with water and poured into a confined borehole, generate high pressure causing the destruction of the surrounding material. This poster will present the experimental work involving the quantification of expansive pressure of SCDA. The experimental evaluation of SCDA is part of a multi-phase project aiming to revolutionize an alternative explosive-free method for rock breakage in underground mines.
Biography of the presenter
Miss Kelly Habib holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ottawa and has just recently completed her Master of Science in Mining Engineering at McGill University in Montreal Canada. Following her Master’s degree, Miss Habib developed an interest in mining because of its importance to our daily lives and wanted to contribute in addressing challenges mining faces with respect to the environment and health and safety. Her research at the master’s level focused on exploring an explosive-free rock breakage method in underground mines and is now continuing further studies as a PhD student in the aim of implementing a safer method for the breakage of rock in underground mines.
